Random Cosmic Collisions – My Dharmic Indoctrination!
“I met my wife and soul-mate Pamela late in the fall of “79 in Kodiak Alaska. Looking back and connecting the dots, clearly the Universe had a plan for us.
I was working as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and Pamela from Eugene Oregon. I was drawn by the rough-hewn lifestyle, excelled at the extremely dangerous and strenuous work and quickly became addicted to the financial rewards.
In the late Spring of "79 having just wrapped up a successful snow crab season in the Bering Sea, I had a seemingly “random” conversation with a skipper of another crab boat while taking on fuel in Dutch Harbor. Two months later I received a phone call from that man in my apartment above Fishermen’s Terminal down in Seattle.
That random conversation manifested into a job offer as "Deck- Boss" on a new 110’ crabber being built for the Alaska rab fisheries down in Mobile Alabama. I eagerly accepted his offer and immediately got started rigging the 350 crab pots for the upcoming Bering Sea red king crab season.
As fate would have it, while the boat was receiving it's finishing touches hurricane Frederick barreled through the Gulf Coast and decimated the shipyard. The boat was taken up river, double anchored where she valiantly weathered the first of many epic storms.
This “random” weather phenomenon then led to a series of delays in getting the boat around and through the Panama Canal and up to Seattle where we would take on provisions. As a result we narrowly missed the Bering Sea opening and decided to head for the Kodiak fisheries instead.
It was there on Kodiak Island that I literally made the catch of my life. Pamela!
Over thirty-five years later, I am absolutely thrilled to be able to co-found with this amazing woman what we call “RavensWood.”
Randomly situated on Whidbey’s Island 60 nautical miles NW of Seattle, Ravenswood boasts a stunning 180 degree view of the Olympic Mountains, Straight of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver’s Island.
A truly love at first sight, magical place providing an amazing quality of light filtering down through the towering cedar and fir trees. These surrounding forests also provide home to a host of ravens, eagles and owls that so inspire us as we work creating our works of art.
We hope that our amazing journey and moreover the cosmic energy instilled into our sculptures, will inspire others to challenge the “status qui” follow their own hearts and embark on their own random spiritual journeys!
I developed an interest in Western astrology in the late 90’s. However, in early 2000, the Jyotish system of Vedic astrology attracted me deeply. Since then, I have loved helping my clients understand their birth chart, transits and karmic patterns. I enjoy guiding my clients to capitalize on their gifts be it for published authors, stay at home mothers or artists.
Life can be extremely challenging at times. Most often people seek the knowledge of Vedic astrology during these difficult periods. But Jyotish should not be the last resort. In fact, Vedic astrology can be a great point of reference and guidance for any big life changes be it relationships, money, health or career changes.
The Jyotish system illuminates many parts of a person’s life. My clients feel validated, knowing that many of their challenging life experiences are karmic. And knowing that they do have a choice! Along with that, I use Jyotish to help empower my clients to understand and navigate their karmas. Also to improve their lives through yantra, mantra and other practical remedies.
My life experience is somewhat unique for an astrologer. I have over three decades of practical experience in the corporate environment including international business. My specialty is combining the ancient system of Vedic astrology with my practical business experience, providing actionable solutions for your life and business. I have clients from all over the world that range from leaders of multinational companies and self-employed business owners.
I have also studied Ayurveda and audited the Bastyr Ayurveda course track when Robert Svoboda was on faculty. My understanding of Ayurveda allows me to connect the dots with regard to AyurJyotish or medical astrology. I enjoy educating my clients about the archetypal nature of the planets and love to help them become aware of the energies of the planets so they are not “driven” by them.
Along with my chart interpretation skills and ever expanding study of Jyotish, I infuse compassion, joy and care to each reading.
I look forward to working with you!
It was a beautiful sunny day and Mick and I were sitting on the beach in Tofino British Columbia watching two ravens unzipping a backpack leaning amongst the driftwood.
it was amazing to watch them as they had learned the dexterity to open tupperware type containers and unzip the backpacks! These are amazingly intelligent birds! What should we call our new venture?
We loved their inquisitive nature and their ability to solve problems! And in many traditions the Raven is considered to be synonymous with introspection, self-knowledge, courage, magic, mysteries, creation, wisdom, truth, secrets, messages, instruction, and change.
Then came the hard part; actually quitting our jobs. As difficult and scary as it was, as we were both "programmed" to be the "working class heroes" that John Lennon wrote about."
We agreed that it was now or never.
In retrospect I think that the "spiritual" energy of India and perhaps the "magic" of the Johari home traveled back with me and filtered through to Mick as well.
Shortly thereafter, our previously quite separate artistic and spiritual passions just came together and we started collaborating on this series of ancient Indian Yantras and Mandalas.
We call it Cosmic Expressionism. We hope you enjoy meditating upon them as much as we have enjoyed creating them!
Namaste, Mick & Pamela McDonough
