2014: Abundance. Expansion. Spirituality and Wisdom.
These qualities will color many of our lives and experiences during 2014 and 2015. This is largely due to the upcoming and fortunate transit of Jupiter surfing into the watery sign of Cancer late spring of 2014.*
Jupiter (Brihaspati in Sanskrit) will be in his most beloved sign (rashi) for about 13 months. For the first time in 12 years Jupiter visits his favorite constellation of Cancer.
This will be the LAST time for another 12 years!
Jupiter’s blessings are considered to be the most fortunate of all planets and he is in his absolute strength during much of this transit. From June 2014 - July 2015 you may want to realize the expansive opportunities that Jupiter is offering you in support of your New Year resolutions.
Plant the fertile seeds that will be nurtured and harvested in your life for 2014 and beyond. Now is the time to start preparing for this new chapter full of opportunities!
Cancer is the natural 4th house of the zodiac representing flow, emotions, mother, home and happiness to name a few key meanings. Primarily though the nature of water and the sign of Cancer is connected to FLOW. Whenever Jupiter visits this constellation his element of Akash (ether) combined with the tattwa (element) of water (jala) of Cancer will create tremendous flow and the ability to manifest your desires into form. Akash has the ability to draw matter together to create - almost like a natural humectant that draws and promotes the retention of water.
Saturn is currently in Libra (sidereal). Saturn as the karmic task-master will be sending his influence by aspect to Jupiter transiting in Cancer. Until Saturn leaves sidereal Libra in November 2014 there may be a few obstacles and hard work in store as you work toward your goals.
One special note about the 10th aspect of Saturn in Libra that touches Jupiter in Cancer; it checks karma, morality, and ethics. It is critical that we retain our morality, ethics and honor while interacting with others both personally and professionally. Our karmic experiences and potential obstacles can be minimized with an honest, compassionate attitude and behavior towards others. Jupiter also represents morality, judgment and ethics so it is doubly important to note the meaning of this 10th aspect from Saturn!
There is always a flip-side: with every high tide there is a low tide.
For example there will be some very intense time periods in 2014. Unique planetary combinations will occur on the Libra and Aries axis (sidereal) in mid-February. And another in Virgo in July.
I want to preface the next statement with one caveat: Depending upon your horoscope and unique karma this transit may or may not affect you! So please do not let the vata element that is so predominant now with Saturn and Rahu in Libra come into play and create anxiety for you or add to existing concerns.
Vata has been and will continue to be extremely high during certain times in 2014 for our planet and for many of us. Particularly those who have key planets like Sun, Moon or their ruling planet on the Aries and Libra axis. If you find yourself in a high vata mental space manifesting as anxiety fear or stress try replacing your unproductive thoughts with a mantra!
Mantra comes from the Sanskrit word Manas and mantras help us to keep our minds calm. The mantra can be an affirmation that you are using to support new goals and habits in your life like “I give out Love and it is returned to me multiplied”.
Or it might be a traditional mantra in Sanskrit. One traditional mantra that is excellent for anxiety is the mantra for Krishna. Krishna is deeply connected to the Moon. But he is also tied to the heart and the Anahata chakra. The Moon represents our emotional state of mind in the birth chart. This short Krishna mantra is very powerful! This mantra combined with meditation on the Moon yantra - the shapes and colors are incredibly soothing and calming to the mind and nervous system.
My Jyotish guru Souvik Dutta, recently shared a very moving personal experience about this mantra and he highly recommends it for everyone during this high vata time. Try it for yourself and see what happens!
hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare
So why is vata increased now for so many of us and our mother earth? How does the weather connect with us and the disturbances in our own minds?
There is no separation between humans animals and earth. Basically the global weather is a physical manifestation of what is occurring in society at large. There are two planets that represent the pure element of Vayu or wind; Saturn and Rahu. Together they are transiting through the airy constellation of Libra.
There is another rich level of wisdom to explore behind the 12 signs of the zodiac in Jyotish. There are 27 Nakshatras or lunar mansions connected to specific deities from the Vedic pantheon.
Saturn and Rahu were transiting the Nakshatra of Swati in November 2013 when the devastating typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines. Swati is lorded over by Marut the storm deity who accompanies Indra across the skies. This played out in the weather on our planet and amongst so many of us mentally during this time.
Doshas are effected by transiting planets! Through an ayurvedic diet and lifestyles these effects can be mitigated. Personally this transit may have manifested for you as anxiety, fear, and/or insomnia. Please keep in mind these effects and the length of the effects are very much connected to your specific horoscope along with the transits and dashas or planetary cycle that you are running.
In February we have an extremely rare conjunction of Rahu and Mars in the Air sign of Libra with Saturn. Saturn wants to recreate structures. Mars opposes structure and Rahu wants anything but tradition! This is a turbulent combination of planets to say the least.
Mars represents the element of fire or agni. What happens when you put fire and air together? On the physical plane it can manifest as violence, explosions, earthquakes, and other natural phenomena. On the mental plane fire can push vata (air) dramatically to fuel the vata dosha or imbalance.
I want to emphasize that the true intention of the ancient rishis (seers) of India who divined the system of Jyotish was to shed light on our lives. Jyoti means light and ish is derived from Ishwara which translates as God; Jyotish is the Light of the Gods.
These time periods for some will be very intense although fairly short-lived.If you understand that these influences will subside with time you can navigate them more easily with care and compassion for others. Again depending upon YOUR birth chart and your individual karmas you will experience these dates/transits dramatically different from person to person. Chant mantras, meditate with yantras, connect with nature, have compassion for others and you will sail through these times when the planetary waters are choppy.
Remember your peresonal mantra!
“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.” ― Rabindranath Tagore
These are just a few of the planetary dances that will be part of our journey into 2014. It is my sincere wish that the information I shared with you today gives you useful tools to navigate the choppy waters and capitalize on opportunistic times.
I will be writing more about significant astrological transits for 2014 each month so please check back for updates and add your email information to receive our newsletter.
* Depending upon your individual horoscope and your rising sign the results of Jupiter’s transit through Cancer will create varied results. I truly wish it could be as easy as dividing everyone on the planet into 12 zodiac signs and then creating an accurate general forecast based upon the signs! Astrology is a reflection of our own unique karmas and is much more complex. Therefore I can only offer you generalized forecasts on this blog along with some remedies that can help you navigate these times.
Thank you for taking time to read this blog. I wish you abundance, joy and enlightenment in 2014 and beyond!
